Frequently asked questions

Clarity before an engagement begins.

What does Blackthorn actually deliver?

Depending on the assignment: an intelligence brief, factual investigation report, due-diligence report, chronology, relationship map, subject profile, location report, evidence schedule, claims report or executive briefing. Every deliverable states the question, scope, findings, sources, limitations and unresolved gaps.

Is my enquiry confidential?

Enquiries are handled on a need-to-know basis and subject to privacy, conflict and engagement procedures. Absolute confidentiality cannot be promised where disclosure is legally required or necessary to address immediate danger. Before sharing sensitive records, wait until an appropriate submission method has been confirmed and the assignment accepted in writing.

Can Blackthorn guarantee proof?

No. An investigation may support the concern, contradict it or remain inconclusive. Our obligation is to report what the available reliable information supports — not to produce a desired result.

Do you conduct surveillance?

Surveillance may be used only where it is lawful, proportionate, relevant to the mandate and performed by appropriately authorised personnel. It is never offered for harassment, intimidation or open-ended monitoring.

Can Blackthorn obtain private messages, banking information or call records?

Not without lawful authority. Blackthorn does not hack accounts, intercept communications, bypass access controls or acquire illegally sourced protected information.

Will the report be usable in court?

Material is collected and documented with legal review and potential evidential use in mind, but no investigator can guarantee admissibility. That depends on the law, the source, the collection method, authentication and the relevant court or forum.

Does Blackthorn make legal, disciplinary or claims decisions?

No. Blackthorn establishes and reports facts. Attorneys, employers, insurers, boards, regulators and courts make decisions within their own authority.

How long does an investigation take?

Duration depends on the question, urgency, geography, source availability, number of parties, field requirements, legal process and specialist dependencies. We provide a matter-specific plan and review points after the initial assessment rather than a generic turnaround promise.

How much does an investigation cost?

Cost depends on the question, urgency, geography, available information, risk and specialist requirements. A proposed scope, commercial structure and expense controls are agreed before work begins.

What should I provide initially?

A concise explanation of the concern, the question requiring an answer, the relevant people or entities, key dates, the decision at stake and any urgent safety, evidence or legal deadline. Do not access information you are not legally entitled to hold, and do not upload highly sensitive material through a general website form.
